Rachel

Support Coordinator

Location: Shoalhaven NSW

Started with Auscare Support:

March 2023

What I do:

I am a Support Coordinator with Auscare and I help empower people with disability and their families to build capacity and confidence. I help them navigate the NDIS by exploring options best suited to them and ensuring funds are utilised effectively so that people can get the most out of their Plan.

Unique skills:

I have strong Emotional Intelligence skills which means that I understand, collaborate and communicate well with people. I also have exceptional social skills and so am able to develop and maintain strong and effective relationships. I am committed to self-directed motivation and learning whilst also being and enthusiastic and valued team player.

Previous experience:

I started working in Disabilities in 2017 with Greenacres Disability Services as a combined Support Worker and Café Manager, I was privileged to mentor, train and guide five supported employees in fulfilling their dream of gaining permanent employment. I enjoyed empowering them to develop skills and confidence to achieve workplace and personal goals. I was able to gain insight into the NDIS and understand the importance of connecting people with disability to the right services so that they achieve the best possible outcomes in their lives.

After leaving Greenacres, I had my beautiful boy and then went on to become the Business Supports Manager at The Collective Beat where I supported over 100 small, creative businesses and helped them to fulfil their business dreams, goals and targets. I was responsible for networking, researching and recruiting new businesses, coordinating all movements and liaising with them to promote improvement and development. I enjoyed my time here but felt there was something missing and always had the underlying urge and desire to find more fulfilling employment working back in the disability sector, which led me to where I am now. I’ll never forget when I saw the advertisement on Seek for the Support Coordinator role, I knew at that very moment that is was the role I had been waiting for!

Other interesting roles:

I have been fortunate enough to have a very colourful and exciting career being a tour guide for Contiki Holidays, a Cruise Director on a vessel in the Great barrier Reef Whitsundays and a Stewards and Yacht Cook on a sailing vessel in the Mediterranean. All of these roles allowed me to work with and experience people from all walks of life and to develop the exceptional communication and social skills that I have today. All of my roles have required me to deliver excellent customer service and experiences which I pride on myself on being able to offer. I believe of my roles have led me to where I am now and taught me so many valuable skills to help me to thrive as a Support Coordinator.

What’s Auscare Support like?

I am only new to Auscare but even from the interview stage with Michelle Burton and Michelle King I could tell Auscare is a company that highly values its employees and works hard to offer a wonderful and supportive working environment. I knew from then on that I would enjoy working with Auscare very much.

Life outside:

I love spending time with friends and family, going to the beach and having adventures with my husband and beautiful 2 year old boy who was born with a physical disability with symbrachydactyly of the left hand and will eventually need his own NDIS Plan one day. I love listening to audiobooks (because I struggle to find the time to read anymore!), all types of music, dancing with my 2 year old, chasing thrills and generally just making the most out of life.

To sum me up:

I have a very big heart, am fun-loving and spontaneous and am always up for an adventure!
