Started with Auscare Support:
January 2025
What I do:
As a Specialist Support Coordinator at Auscare Support, I am passionate about empowering participants to live their best lives and achieve their goals by accessing the supports they need. I work collaboratively with participants to help them navigate the NDIS and effectively implement their plans to get the best possible outcomes.
Unique skills:
I am highly empathetic and love connecting with people. My lived experience as a carer for a family member with a disability has made me a strong advocate for NDIS participants, giving me a deep understanding of the challenges involved in navigating the NDIS. I also hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Nursing.
Previous experience:
I am also a mental health nurse with several years of experience working on a crisis assessment team. My work in mental health, combined with my previous experience as a support worker, has given me extensive knowledge of the disability sector and the NDIS. Working in a crisis team has equipped me with the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations and focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for participants. I can effectively communicate with participants and their families to facilitate care and recovery planning, as well as liaising with stakeholders to support participants in reaching their goals. Additionally, I have a strong understanding of various services that can assist in meeting participant needs.
Other interesting roles:
Prior to working as a nurse and support worker, I worked as a relay officer, facilitating phone calls for clients who were deaf or hard of hearing. In this role, I re-voiced conversations and transcribed captions in real time, allowing clients to receive captions on their phones and communicate seamlessly with callers. This experience helped me develop strong listening skills and the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure. These are just some of the valuable skills I bring to my role as a support coordinator.
What’s Auscare Support like?
Everyone I have come across at Auscare Support is very supportive, welcoming, and kind. They are passionate about the work they do, and I strongly admire that.
Life outside:
I attend swimming lessons on a weekly basis and love reading a good book. I have an appreciation for nature, so I enjoy spending time outdoors and going on road trips. I also volunteer at my local church every week.
To sum me up:
Genuine, empathetic and kind.
