Case Study:
Getting to know Mary

Meet Mary

Mary is a 36-year-old woman, living independently in NSW. Her functional impairments span both visible and invisible disabilities.

Mary is a very intelligent woman and requires nearly 24/7 care primarily due to her functional impairments.

She needed help navigating the formalities and technicalities of the NDIS funding process, especially in this urgent situation.

The Background

Mary self-managed her NDIS plan initially, which led to funds being consumed too quickly. Unfortunately, being self-managed meant Auscare Support was not able to keep an eye on her funding levels.

The NDIS failed to respond, however. Two months later, Mary called Auscare Support asking for help because she only had $1,000 left in her plan.

Our Solution

When Mary revealed her funding problem to us, her Support Coordinator from Auscare Support created a new budget using our “Plan Maximiser” tool and submitted the necessary change of circumstance.

Our Support Coordinators escalated the change of circumstance within the NDIS, chasing on a daily basis so that the matter be looked at with greater urgency.

A detailed occupational therapy assessment and recommendations summary had already been submitted. This was used to justify her new plan.

Outcome

Mary transferred to plan management because the NDIS stipulated she could no longer self-manage.

The NDIS advised they would honour the outstanding invoices from providers as Mary could not be without support.

Mary chose Auscare Support for the Plan Management and Support Coordination aspects of her new NDIS plan.
