Getting started with Specialist Support Coordination

1. Request it in your planning meeting
Specialist Support Coordination is not automatically included in your plan. You need to specifically request it at your planning or review meeting, explaining why standard coordination is not sufficient.

2. NDIA assesses complexity
They will evaluate the complexity of your situation, risk factors, number of providers involved, and whether specialist expertise is necessary for your safety and outcomes.

3. Get matched with specialist coordinator
Once approved, we will connect you with a Specialist Support Coordinator who has experience with situations like yours.

4. Intensive support begins
Your specialist coordinator provides higher-level oversight, crisis management, and multi-agency coordination whilst working toward long-term stability.

“My support coordinator has been an amazing resource. She’s continuously well-prepared, reliable, and thorough. Her diligence has seen us move forward in significant ways.”

How is Specialist Support Coordination different from regular Support Coordination?
Specialist Support Coordination involves higher-level expertise for complex situations, more intensive contact hours, and advanced skills in crisis management, multi-agency coordination, and specialist disability areas.

Specialist Support Coordination must be requested at your planning meeting. The NDIA assesses whether your situation requires this higher level
of support based on complexity, risk factors, and support needs.

How much funding can I expect?
