Why I made the switch
to Auscare Support

I joined the Auscare team in late 2019. I had been working in the disability sector for the past 7 years and had experience working as a Support Worker, a Teacher’s Aide and as an Office Manager in a School for Specific Purposes. My son has Muscular Dystrophy and I understand the challenges that both NDIS participants and their families face on a daily basis. I have always wanted to be able to help people.

I enjoyed the work that I had been doing and seeing the positive outcomes achieved for participants, however, I wanted to have more flexibility in terms of being able to spend time with my son. When I discovered the opportunity to join Auscare Support as an Independent Contractor providing Support Coordination services, I was very excited.

The whole engagement process was explained clearly to me. Shortly after my interview, I was offered the position. I signed the contract and went through the induction phase where I received training on Auscare Support’s policies and procedures, systems and service delivery methodology, ‘The Auscare Way.’

The most daunting part of the experience was my concern over transitioning from being an employee to an independent contractor working from home. There are things you need to consider such as tax implications and superannuation contributions, but my accountant was able to assist me with my enquiries and the process of applying for an ABN was simple. The change of work environment took a while to get used to, but I connect with other Support Coordinators regularly via video conference, phone and email.

Since starting with Auscare Support, I have relished the autonomy that I have in terms of building the client base in a new region (Greater Western Sydney) and I have been fully supported with marketing materials and administrative support when I have had any questions or concerns. Auscare Support’s partnership with DSC has also provided me with ongoing training. This training ensures that I keep up-to-date with the ever changing rules and regulations of the NDIS so I can provide my clients with the best Support Coordination service.

I am very happy with the decision I made to join Auscare Support. I have more time to spend with my son, I am playing a part in building the business and I enjoy assisting my clients to maximise the outcomes and goals of their NDIS Plan.

I need to know, more about Recruitment

Since our Support Coordinators work flexibly and remotely, we need people who can operate autonomously. Individuals who are mature and capable of managing their own time and goals tend to thrive at Auscare Support.


Our Support Coordinators need to enjoy the challenge of navigating the sometimes-complex NDIS while supporting their clients, who often face challenges accessing scarce provider resources.


Previous experience as a Support Coordinator is preferred, however experience within the NDIS landscape, disability services, community services and lived experience are helpful.


Being skilled at managing client budgets is also important for our Support Coordinators and possessing strong analytical and problem-solving abilities is a must.

Our Plan Managers need to be meticulous and analytical. Being good with numbers and finances is important. A background in accounts, bookkeeping or other finance-related roles is valued.


Our Plan Managers need to understand Service Agreements and know how to interact with the myplace portal. They need to be able to submit payment requests and make service bookings; understand the price guide and all services and line-item categories.


The ability to problem-solve issues with funding and plans; talk to providers and participants; talk to the NDIS; understand client goals and know the services clients need to meet these goals is important.

Our Budget Builder analysts should understand how to find providers and know what might be a good a support for somebody. An in-depth understanding of industry providers and a depth of experience in the industry is key. Being analytical and strong with numbers is also helpful.

Our Mable partnerships team members have extensive communication with participants, so they need to be comfortable talking to participants.


Knowing how to have productive and positive conversations about services, supports, connect with participants and support them through challenges is important.


For Support and Domestic workers, the ability to communicate well and support and connect with people living with disabilities is important. Being conscious of client needs and how to best support clients in the community is a must.

Head office

The head office interview process begins with you filling in an application form, working through a two-step interview process with the team and your managers; undergoing reference checks; signing contracts and being onboarded.


Support Coordinators

Our recruitment process for Support Coordinators is a little more involved, taking about 30 days to complete.


You need to fill in an application form, which involves answering specific selection criteria. We use this to shortlist applicants before we schedule a Zoom meeting.


You will be interviewed over Zoom by our coaching panel, followed by reference checks. If you are successful, you will sign contracts and receive onboarding.


All roles

Our onboarding process includes completing an NDIS education module; training on systems and procedures and marketing. You will receive ongoing support from managers and coaches dedicated to your development and building your skills.

If you work at head office, which includes those who are part of the executive team, HR, sales and marketing, support staff and plan managers, you will be a PAYG employee.


Our Support Coordinators work remotely and flexibly and are independent contractors.


Many of our Support Coordinators have come from other businesses that log billable hours throughout the day, creating pressure, stress and sometimes unachievable KPIs.


Many join Auscare Support to remove this stress and choose independence. They set their own goals and achieve these in the hours that they choose. (You do need to work for a minimum of 15 hours per week).


At the same time, they receive the support and training that comes with working for an established (and fantastic) organisation while earning rates that are higher than industry standard.

You need to have public liability and professional indemnity insurance and provide a Certificate of Currency to Auscare Support to work as a Support Coordinator.

In January 2019, Auscare Support, in partnership with MyCareSpace, launched an industry-first insurance product in Australia for independent Support Coordinators working in the disability sector.


The new NDIS Independent Support Coordinator insurance policy provides independent Support Coordinators with protection against claims that may be made against them for personal injury or property damage or provision of misleading advice.
