Auscare Support… who are we, and what do we stand for?

Auscare Support was established in 2015 by my wife and I. We saw an opportunity to bring our combined skill set into the new National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We had family experience of a variety of disabilities…including mental illness and psychosocial.

What we didn’t have however, was a background in the disability industry… I am from the staffing industry and my wife has a background in fashion marketing and branding. For over ten years I ran a recruitment agency, recruitment marketing and employer branding agency.

We have had some interesting reactions from some of the old school guard that we have come across. At one of the first meetings I attended in 2016, another attendee approached me, and, with a disparaging tone, sighed, “So you’re a ‘for profit.’” The accusation was that ‘for profit’ was bad. When I mentioned that I had a background in employment and staffing… her eyes rolled again.

“Yes,” I replied, “but is that such a bad thing? We have a goal and a mission… would you like to know what that is?”

“Empower great futures for our clients and their families”

It was a mission statement that helped to get at the core of what we are trying to achieve.

Seems simple enough.

Empower – meaning to give someone the authority or power to do something, or to make someone stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights.

Great futures – great ‘from now on’…great prospects…our goal is not to dwell in the past, nor to cast blame on those things that were historically not right…but to aim for a future that is great. The best version of a future…In whatever form that may be. To give our clients the choices and assistance to create their own version of what they want their future to be.

Clients – it’s a bit clinical, the word client. But we have to acknowledge that this is a relationship that is based on a company, its staff, and the clients.

The client, interestingly enough, is not more or less important than the team…I believe that to get the best result and outcome for our clients, they have to be serviced and supported by happy staff.

Families – Is there anything better than being with your own family and friends, with rooms filled with laughter and joy, sharing those wonderful experiences, growing together, more ups than downs.

By family we are not only restricted to biological or linear families. We use the term loosely to define the collective of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, friends, pets and everyone else that we as individuals interact with. A very broad and large definition,
but we want that broad definition – because we want everyone to share in the great future.

Have we always achieved this? Undoubtedly not! We work in an uncertain environment, without full control of the outcomes. But if we can remind ourselves of our company’s mission statement, use it to guide us, our actions and interactions, then we are, at the very least, going to drive towards a great future.
