A Moment With… Lauren Oostryck, Auscare Support Coordinator ⏱

Why did you pursue a career in the disability sector?
The majority of my career has been focused around driving sales and hitting key performance indicators. While I am a driven person I found the part of my work I really enjoyed most was the human interaction through helping and supporting people. I wanted my next role to be more community focused in the hope of finding a rewarding long term career.

What do you like most about working at Auscare Support?
The Auscare team are my kind of people! It is obvious the team is very passionate about their work, they are down to earth and hard working, and they get the job done. I wanted to work with a progressive company that focuses on the quality of your output rather than how many hours you spend in the office. I feel the people and culture of the business you work for is just as important as the work itself, so I am excited to be joining the team at Auscare Support.

Favourite musician/band… I enjoy a lot of “the classics,” Van Morrison, Elton John, Neil Young, but I also can’t go past a good Beyonce banger. 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁

Favourite book/author…
Most recently I have enjoyed ‘Becoming,’ by Michelle Obama as well as ‘Any Ordinary Day,’ by Leigh Sales. Both true stories of strong, passionate and hard working women, finding their place in the world and working out that you can “have it all”… just not all at the same time. 📙

Do you have a favourite saying or inspirational quote?
This quote by Maya Angelou sums me up perfectly.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style.”

Do you have any pets?
Yes! Baker, a one year old, cheeky and very kind Spanador, he is a cross between a Labrador and a Cocker Spaniel and the best thing we ever did. He is a black lab with white paws, hence the name Baker, as he looks like he has stepped in flour.🐕

Do you have any hobbies?
Travel has always been a big passion of mine… I have visited over 25 countries, however with the current world situation I have put my annual holiday dreaming aside and have been doing more reading, exercise and cooking. 🍲 🏃‍♀️ 📙

If you could invite anyone to a dinner party (past or present), who would they be?
Hmmm this is hard, so many options, at the moment having lived in isolation for almost 9 weeks away from our family & friends in Brisbane & Perth. My network of family and friends are incredibly important to me and bring a lot of happiness to my life, so I would invite them. … However, If they are not available, I would hit up Beyonce. 🍽 🥂

Favourite food…
I love authentic Mexican food, it is the best! In December 2019 we went to Mexico for our Honeymoon, and we could not have asked for a more perfect adventure. 🌮

Favourite holiday destination…
My husband’s family live in Western Australia and I have always loved the Margaret River region, it is the perfect mix of bush and coast, beautiful coastlines on one side of Caves Road and rolling hills of wineries on the other, what more can you ask for? When it comes to international travel I can’t go past France, I love the food, culture and its natural beauty. Everything about it makes me smile. ✈️
