A Moment With… Dianne Wallace, Auscare Support Coordinator ⏱

Why did you pursue a career in the disability sector?
As a student, I went to visit a disability services facility in Queensland and saw the huge need to improve the quality of life of the people living there. I also saw that much could be done to change people’s lives.

What do you like most about working at Auscare Support?
Auscare is totally focused on supporting their clients. They are a great team who work together to achieve positive outcomes for their clients.

Favourite book/author…
As a girl my favourite book was ‘Pollyanna.’ I remember getting lost in ‘Gone with the Wind’ as a teenager on holidays and doing nothing else but read it until I finished it. I found a book at an airport book store called, ‘No Place for a Nervous Lady,’ which is a compilation of diaries written by women who came to Australia in mid-to-late 1880’s, documenting their adventures and how they made a new life in regional and remote Australia. I find reading good for my soul. It is a privilege to learn of life from others sharing their story. 📙

Favourite musician… Carole King and her song, ‘Beautiful’ – her music and lyrics have always inspired me. 🎤🎼

Do you have a favourite saying or inspirational quote?
‘The glass is always half full.’

Do you have any pets?
An Italian Greyhound called Huey – he is 5 years old and a great companion.  Huey loves people, getting out for a walk and stopping to say hello to people and other dogs. 🐕

Do you have any hobbies?
Cooking , going for a long walk on the weekend and meeting people, stopping to chat, and enjoying the surroundings. 🍲

If you could invite anyone to a dinner party (past or present), who would they be?
I am a great fan of the Netflix series, Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. They are in their 80’s, use their voice to advocate on community issues and are role models for many of us decades younger than them. 🍽 🥂

Favourite food… Roast lamb with baked vegetables.

Favourite holiday destination…
Vietnam – went on a motor bike tour 5 years ago for 15 days – best holiday ever! The people, food, countryside and riding a motor bike. It was a great adventure! ✈️
